I suppose most brides have heard about ‘trash the dress’ portrait sessions. I also suppose most probably say “why would I want to take my expensive wedding dress to go out and ruin it?”. Most brides after their wedding will have their dress cleaned and put away, with the idea of saving their dress for when their daughter gets married.
What they should ask themselves is, why didn’t they wear their mother’s wedding dress? Maybe because it became yellow with age, or it’s so hopelessly out of date that they wouldn’t be caught dead in the dress? Or maybe the bride wanted something that fit their own style.
Twenty years from now, don’t you think your daughter will feel the same way? So, now the wedding is over and you’re about to send the dress to be cleaned before you stick it in your closet. Why not before cleaning it, you take it out one more time and get those beautiful photographs that you were afraid of or wouldn’t have been practical on your wedding day.
We really don’t like calling these sessions “trash the dress” sessions. Because the dress doesn’t get destroyed as implied when you say “trash the dress”. Trust me a little dirt or water is whole lot easier to get out then some of the food or drinks you’re more likely to spill on the dress during the reception.
Being a bride is a once in a lifetime period in your life and it deserves once in a lifetime photographs to celebrate it!
Thank-you Hannah for rocking the dresses!
